GENERAL INFORMATION PRE-MASTER BA PROGRAMME
Every application for the MSc Business Administration (MSc BA) programme is assessed individually, based on the requirements. There will be made an assessment if the candidate has deficiencies for the MSc BA. If there are no deficiencies, a direct admission to the MSc BA programme will be the result. If there are deficiencies, it will be checked if these deficiencies can be eliminated within 30 EC (European Credits). If this is the case, the University of Twente has to offer a bridging programme. Such a programme is called a pre-Master programme, and it helps students transferring from similar programmes at other institutes of higher education (research universities or universities of applied sciences) to make up any deficiencies they may have. In general, the pre-Master programme is not a standard package; courses to be taken by a student are determined on a case-by-case basis according to the needs of the individual student and depends on the candidate’s previous education. One can not apply for a pre-Master programme separately; it has to be appointed by the Admission Committee after applying to the specific MSc programme.
Although no standard programme exist, we do try to standardize the procedure and the content of a pre-Master. Generally speaking, the pre-Master’s programme BA for students with a Bachelor degree achieved at a university of applied sciences is normally worth 30 EC and is given each semester in English. In principle, all courses will consist of training in research methods and techniques and academic skills. Where possible, the topics are related to Business Administration fields. This involves 6 courses, each worth 5 EC (see both tables below for the standardized package). It is required that students’ mathematical knowledge and English language skills are of VWO (pre-university) level before the pre-Master begins.
The following table consists of the research methods and techniques courses that are shared with other social sciences pre-Master programmes.
Research methodology and descriptive Statistics
Academic Writing (Pre-master)
In many cases the remaining 15 EC will consist of three courses that use Business Administration topics to teach the research orientation and academic knowledge and skills. The most appointed pre-Master courses are:
Researching Strategy & Marketing
Global Entrepreneurship & Business
The pre-Master programme must be completed within 12 months after commencement. Each student is given two chances to pass the exams for each course. If you do not complete the Pre-Master programme within 12 months, you may not register for the Master BA programme. If this is the case, but you are able to prove that due to personal circumstances you could not complete the programme, you can then submit a request to the Admission Committee for an extra attempt via the study advisor. Any personal circumstance that may affect the progress of your course of study must be reported immediately to your study advisor.
