You will pay tuition fees at the University where you are studying, that is one year at the University of Twente and one year at the University of L’Aquila.

The yearly fee paid at the University of L’Aquila is composed by a fix tax duty and an annual tuition fee. For 2019/2020, the fix tax duty is € 156,00 (regional tax + virtual stamp duty) and the standard tuition fee (Contributo Onnicomprensivo Annuale, COA) is approximately equal to € 1.350,00. Students can apply for reductions of the standard tuition fee based on income/economic status certified by fiscal documents. More details and most up-to-date fees are published on the UA website.

At the University of Twente you will pay either the statutory tuition fee, determined by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, or the institutional tuition fee. The exact and most up-to-date fees are published on the website.

You will be personally responsible for all costs relating to travel expenses, insurance (including health and travel insurance), accommodation and living expenses, all costs associated with applying for and obtaining appropriate visas and travel documentation, costs associated with studies (textbooks etc.).

If you are going abroad as part of the double degree programme, you can de-enrol from the University of Twente if:

  • You do not receive any kind of financial support, scholarship (for example ‘studiefinanciering’), or OV card for which you need an enrolment at the University of Twente.

De-enrolling is at your own risk and on your own initiative. You can find more information on how to de-enrol at

If you wish to re-enrol upon your return to the University of Twente you need to take the regular starting moment of the Master programme into account (1 February and 1 September) and re-enrol in time; at least 1 month before the start of the programme at the UT, by sending an email to
