Women in Electrical Engineering

Four inspiring women in Electrical Engineering share their journeys, challenges, and visions for the future of the field. Why do women choose electrical engineering? What drives them, and how do they see their role in this traditionally male field?

Fieke Hillerström

After graduating in 2016, I started working at TNO's Intelligent Imaging department. My work focuses on applied research in computer vision and AI, with applications ranging from safety and security to autonomous robotics. What excites me most are projects where multiple domains come together – combining deep learning, knowledge representation, and reasoning to create real impact.

Elke Vosman-Laarhuis

As a senior project and programme manager at Keolis Netherlands, I lead large-scale change projects in public transport, such as the introduction of OVpay. With a background in electrical engineering and over 20 years of experience in IT and public transport, I combine technical expertise with clear communication and the leadership of multidisciplinary teams. It’s that connection that makes my work both valuable and exciting.
