Project 'Datateams' at Seminar Mbo Taalcoach Academie
PROJECT ‘DATA TEAMS’ AT SEMINAR MBO TAALCOACH ACADEMIE
On June 9, the third seminar of the Mbo (intermediate vocational education) Language Coach Academy took place. The Mbo Language Coach Academy was founded by ITTA (Institute for Dutch as a first and second language), the University of Amsterdam and Steunpunt Taal en Rekenen Mbo (Institute for Language and Mathematics for intermediate vocational education), to make it possible to exchange experiences and expertise and to guarantee the professionalization of language coaches. The Mbo Language Coach Academy organizes three seminars a year. The data team project was asked to give a presentation and to provide a workshop on this year’s last seminar.
During the morning, Kim Schildkamp gave a presentation to a hundred participants on the data team procedure, examples drawn from current practice and applications for intermediate vocational education. In the afternoon, Hanadie Leusink and Marije Meerdink provided a workshop, during which the participants could get a taste of what it means to work in a data team. The participants formed fictitious data teams in which they worked on formulating a hypothesis about the cause of the problem ‘disappointing exam results in Dutch’. Whereupon they studied the corresponding data and drew a conclusion. The presentation, as well as the workshop, gave food for thought on the possibilities of using data teams in intermediate vocational education; an enticing prospect for the future!
