Expo in DesignLab: From Prototype to Society

Robot therapy for children with autism, a fully autonomous street cleaning system and an innovative plan for sharing electric cars. These are just a few examples of the student projects on display in the Classroom of the Future (DesignLab) on the UT campus on 21 January.

The exhibition, entitled ‘From Prototype to Society’, marked the conclusion of the second module of the UT-wide minor Science2Society. All third-year UT Bachelor’s students were involved.

“This is a truly unique minor, especially because of the link between business, science and society,” explains Olga Kulyk of the Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences. Olga is also the project coordinator for the exhibition. “The decidedly multidisciplinary approach is further confirmation of the University of Twente’s High Tech, Human Touch profile.”

Many visitors were drawn to the DesignLab to marvel at the students’ innovative solutions to societal problems. There was a great deal of interest from the business community and from other partners associated with DesignLab projects or current research programmes at UT.

The seven student teams had 25 minutes each to present their projects and answer questions.
