UT students receive over a million euros in funding for Homey

With their Athom company, students at the University of Twente have secured more than a million euros in funding. Athom is the inventor of Homey, the voice-controlled personal home assistant. The money will be used for Homey's market launch. Previously, Homey was a great success on the Kickstarter funding platform, receiving financial backing from thousands of people. Athom was also named ING Start-up of the Year 2014.

Stefan Witkamp and Emile Nijssen, the company’s two founders are reporting an ‘amazing year’: “It is fantastic to see how well Homey has been received. We have been working hard on it since our Kickstarter campaign last year. We have expanded the team, developed production and have now begun actual manufacturing” said Emile Nijssen, responsible for product development. “We have also been working to build Athom into a healthy company. This has enabled us to support our current backers and bring Homey more successfully into the stores”, added Stefan Witkamp, commercial director. The entrepreneurs see this investment as a perfect addition to the efforts and work already achieved. “It is the final step towards a major market launch”. This is expected after the summer, since the first Homeys will go to the Kickstarter backers and those who have placed pre-orders.
