EMPLOYMENT RECORD

June 2009
- present

PhD student, University of Twente, Water Engineering & Management department, Enschede, The Netherlands.
This PhD research focuses on wave attenuation and sediment trapping in coastal mangrove forests. For investigating these processes, we started with extensive field studies in Thailand. Subsequently, the findings from the field are used as input for a numerical model (Delft3D).
This PhD project is part of the Singapore-Delft Water Alliance (SDWA), which is a collaboration between Deltares (The Netherlands), National University of Singapore and the Public Utilities Board (Singapore).

August 2008
- May 2009

Junior researcher, University of Twente, Water Engineering & Management department, Enschede, The Netherlands.
Several educational and scientific activities: involved in setting up a new master’s course on coastal & offshore engineering, writing several papers on my master’s thesis, and involved in educational tasks for some bachelor’s and master’s courses.

RESEARCH GRANTS AND PRIZES

NVA/KVWN thesis price 2006 (24-11-2006)
The NVA (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Waterbeheer) and KVWN (Koninklijke Vereniging voor Waterleidingbelangen in Nederland) award a thesis price at their yearly water symposium. This is a national competition for all kinds of theses of students from the Netherlands. The jury’s criteria were: quality of research and report, innovative character of the study and applicability of the research outcomes. This price (1000 euro and a two year membership of both organizations) was awarded to my Bachelor’s thesis ‘Waterberging in de Vlietpolder’.

KIVI NIRIA/UT price 2005, second place (18-4-2006)
The KIVI NIRIA/UT price is a yearly competition among all students of the University of Twente who have finished a Bachelor’s thesis in the past year. In order to convince the jury of the quality of their thesis, the best three authors have to present their thesis at the mechatronics conference. The theme of the 2005 competition was ‘eye for detail’. The second price (50 euro and a one year membership of KIVI NIRIA) was awarded to my Bachelor’s thesis ‘Waterberging in de Vlietpolder’.
