(Vacancy Fulfilled) Assistant Professor in Mechanics of Advanced Manufacturing Processes

At the University of Twente, The Netherlands, in the Chair Nonlinear Solid Mechanics (NSM) led by Prof. Ton van den Boogaard, there is a vacancy for the position of an Assistant Professor. NSM is part of the Department “Mechanics of Solids, Surfaces and Systems” (MS3) in the Faculty of Engineering Technology. Aligned with the strategy of the faculty (Science-based Engineering) and the department (Manufacturing the Future), the mission of NSM is to support manufacturing industry in developing and optimizing material forming processes by numerical simulations.

Your main tasks as Assistant Professor are:

·

Setting up and lecturing mechanics of materials courses for BSc and MSc students in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design.

·

Supervising MSc students in their graduation projects.

·

Writing project proposals and attract funding for your own research line from funding agencies and industry.

·

Perform research in full-scale process simulations, including model based process control, multi-scale friction modelling and model reduction techniques.

·

Supervising PhD students within your own research line.

The integration of process modelling in optimization schemes, process control and machine dynamics requires that predictive models are efficient. Therefore, reduced order modelling for nonlinear systems is a key technology to be handled by the new Assistant Professor. These tasks are performed in a very cooperative atmosphere with colleagues of the Nonlinear Solid Mechanics Chair.
