Last Monday / Tuesday (October 11 to 12) two PhD students of the Department of Energy Technology have won the first prize at the annual conference for combustion research in the Netherlands and Belgium: COMBURA 2011.

Joost Sallevelt has won first prize for best master thesis in the field of combustion and gasification of the past year. Joost's research focused on the gasification of biomass in supercritical water. Meanwhile Joost started a PhD, which focuses on the combustion of bio-oil in gas turbines.

Furthermore, Eyerusalem Gucho the first prize of the best poster at the Congress won. Her research focuses on the torrefaction and combustion of biomass in coal power plants. The second and third poster prize won by PhD students of the Department of Thermal Engineering of Theo van der Meer: Anton Verbeek en Juan Roman Casado.
