General Information

Johannes Unglert is a PhD candidate in the group of Production Management of the Department of Design, Production and Management at the University of Twente. In his research he tries to find out how techniques from lean design can be used to support the design of assembly facilities and Supply Chains. He joined the University in February 2014 and carries out research in conjunction with the EU project “Robust PlaNet: Shock-robust Design of Plants and their Supply Chain Networks”.

Johannes Unglert obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Engineering focusing on production and logistics in Munich, Germany. He continued his education and completed an MSc with the same focus at the European School of Business (ESB) in Reutlingen. During his Master’s degree he spent part of his studies in the USA.

Research interests

My main interest is devoted to the design of production systems, their characteristics and management. As we are trying to improve the support of design decisions in the production domain, I am also interested in design methods and lean design in particular.

Specific current research projects

The main goal of the Robust PlaNet project is to support industry with advanced methods and tools for design and planning of processes in turbulent manufacturing environments. Therefore, research is carried out by the participating universities and focused on the needs of the industrial companies. This way, a close cooperation between academia and industry that is performed in the form of use cases aims to deliver and implement new approaches for decision support. By taking a holistic perspective this should eventually enable more robust performance of the focal production and Supply Chain networks.

As teaching and teaching assistance activities, I am a tutor for Bachelor and Master assignments. Furthermore I support in giving course practicals (Lean Six Sigma Green Belt) and lectures that deal with production and logistics.
