Biography dr. Angèle Reinders is affiliated with the of Faculty of Engineering Technology of University of Twente in the Netherlands and she holds a part-time chair of Professor of Energy-Efficient Design in the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering of Delft University of Technology.
Angèle Reinders’ present research focuses on system integration and product development with renewable energy technologies In particular, she has been establishing the field of innovation and design in photovoltaic technologies and other renewable energy technologies, which has led to the publication of the following book by John Wiley & Sons in 2013: The Power of Design: Product Innovation in Sustainable Energy Technologies.

Angèle Reinders completed a master degree in Experimental Physics in 1993 at Utrecht University, where she also received her doctoral degree in 1999. She’s a co-founding editor of IEEE Journal of Photovoltaics and involved in the Photovoltaic Specialists Conference as a Technical Program Chair in 2014.

Energy research at OPM Within the theme Energy, which is led by Dr. Reinders, design-research focuses on sustainable product development with renewable energy technologies for instance applications of PV solar technologies, LEDs, fuel cells, energy storage technologies, thermal energy technologies and small wind turbines in products and buildings. Her research includes the development of innovative design methodologies, new simulation tools for analysing energy performance, technical monitoring systems and the application of evaluation tools such as environmental life cycle analysis.
In particular the development of applications of photovoltaic (PV) solar energy technologies, for instance PV systems and modules, solar powered boats, concentrating PV and PV products for indoor use have specific interest. A main issue of the design-driven energy research is matching PV solar cell technologies with conditions of use, optimized energy performance and manufacturability.

Recently a new research direction has been initiated on the performance of Smart Grid energy systems at the low voltage level, where interaction between end-users and their household energy consumption and renewable energy production become relevant.

In general energy research within the field of Industrial Design Engineering is frequently executed with companies and in interdisciplinary teams, as well as on the sustainable campus of UT.
