Composites Course (112147)

The Composites Course (3rd trimester, 112147)
aims to give a proper introduction into the basics of long fibre reinforced composite mechanics.

·

Starting with a survey of the basic materials and their properties,

·

introducing micromechanics,

·

going into the mechanics of single orthotropic layers,

·

continuing to laminates, leading to the Classical Laminate Theory,

·

including the concepts of thermal stresses

·

and simple strength criteria,

·

summarising the use of finite element techniques,

·

with guest presentations on current research,

·

design and application of composite materials,

this course should also be a good starting point for further studies / research in this interesting area of high performance materials.
