PDEng Project Description

Almost four million Dutch dwellings have been built before 1975. Buildings constructed in that era typically have not been insulated, as applying thermal insulation to new buildings only gradually became normal practice after the Energy Crisis of 1973. Research has shown that the thermal insulation of the existing building stock possesses a large energy saving potential.

Many small and medium-sized enterprises operate in the market of the thermal insulation of existing buildings. Quality labels have been developed to assess those companies. However, these existing quality labels have a number of shortcomings.

The aim of the PDEng project is therefore to design an improved quality label for insulation services for existing buildings. The project will focus on cavity wall, ground and floor insulation and will primarily target the insulation processes.
