Balance: brooms, standing, walking and biking
There are open loop or uncontrolled ways to keep all of these things from falling over. These are interesting in themselves and interesting to compare to the means by which they can be balanced using control. How do things balance themselves and does this matter for controlled stability?
Does passive stability depend on dissipation? Are there necessary tradeoffs between passive stability, efficiency and maneuverability?
