Tuition fee

1. Requirements to pay the statutory tuition fee

You pay the statutory tuition fee if you meet all two requirements below:

1.

enrolment requirement and

2.

nationality requirement

Note! You have to meet both requirements for the statutory tuition fee.

1. You meet the requirement of enrolment:

·

if you are a Bachelor’s student, not having earlier obtained a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree at a Dutch institute of higher education;

·

if you are a Master’s student, not having earlier obtained a Master’s degree or doctoral diploma at a Dutch institute of higher education;

·

or if you enrol for a second bachelor programme in the field of Education or Health1 and not having earlier obtained a Bachelor’s degree a Master’s degree or doctoral diploma at a Dutch institute of higher education in the field of Education of Health;

·

or if you enrol for a second master programme in the field of Education or Health1 and not having earlier obtained a Master’s degree or doctoral diploma at a Dutch institute of higher education in the field of Education of Health;

2. You meet the nationality requirement if you comply with one of the four requirements listed below:

·

you are a student with the nationality of an EEA country2;

·

you are a student with the Surinamese or Swiss nationality;

·

you are recognized as a refugee by the Foundation for Refugee Students (UAF);

·

you are a student from a non-EEA country, but who has the right to the Dutch student grant of the Student Finance Act (WSF 2000)

·

You have a long term resident EC status and you have a residence permit in the Netherlands.

 

If you do not meet the two requirements above for the statutory tuition fee, you will have to pay the institutional tuition fee.

2. TUITION FEES FOR A SECOND BACHELOR OR SECOND MASTER:

The statutory tuition fee applies only for a first Bachelor- or a first Master programme and only if you meet all the requirements for the statutory tuition fee. If you graduated in the Netherlands for a Bachelor or a Master degree, or a doctoral after September 1991 you will pay the institutional tuition fee for your second Bachelor or Master programme.

The law makes an exception for students who starts their second programme before they finish their first programme.

What does this mean for you as a student:

If you will follow a second programme continuous and your second programme has started during a first programme you will pay the statutory tuition fee if you also meet all the requirements.

Example 1

You are enrolled at the University of Twente for 1 September 2017 for two programs and in January 2018 you graduate for the first programme. For the second programme you do not have to pay tuition fee up to January 2018. From February up to August 2018 you pay the statutory tuition fee for your second programme if you also meet all the requirements for the statutory tuition fee. For the academic year 2018-2019 you will pay the statutory tuition fee for your second programme if you also meet all the requirements for the statutory tuition fee.

Example 2

In the academic year 2013-2014 you graduate for a Bachelor programme. In the academic year 2017-2018 you enrol for a second Bachelor programme at the University of Twente. You have to pay the institutional tuition fee. The same goes for a second Master programme.

Exception:

You enrol for a second programme in the field of Education or Health

You did not have a degree/diploma in the field of Education or Health

You already have a degree/diploma in the field of Education or Health

institutional tuition fee

Example 3

In the academic year 2012-2013 you graduate for a Bachelor programme in the field of Technique and in the academic year 2017-2018 you enrol at the University of Twente for one of the next programs: B Gezondheidswetenschappen; B Klinische Technologie (Technische Geneeskunde. You have to pay the statutory tuition fee if you also meet all the requirements for the statutory tuition fee.

Example 4

In the academic year 2012-2013 you graduate for a Master programme in the field of Education or Health and in the academic year 2017-2018 you enrol at the University of Twente for one of the next programs: M Leraar VHO Maatschappijleer; M Science Education and Communication; M Technical Medicine; M Health Sciences. You have to pay the institutional tuition fee. This is also for an enrolment at any other Master degree.
