Support Scheme for Top-level sports and Top-level Arts

A Grant for Top-Level Sports/Arts is a financial support for students who want to graduate at the UT and combine their studies with practicing their sport or cultural activity on a top-level.

The Rules

The Support Scheme for Top-level Sports and Top-level Arts is part of the FOBOS (Regulation on Financial Support for Special Circumstances of Students). 

First make an appointment with the student counselor

Before you apply for recognition, you need to make an appointment with student counsellor Mrs. Van Dijken, to discuss the feasibility of your application.

application procedure

The procedure is divided into 2 steps:

  1. Application for recognition as a top-level athlete/artist.
    Submit the application before April 1st of the current academic year.
    Attach a statement of your sports- or cultural federation, which mentions your level. You can upload the statement with your application or email it to In case of problems, contact the CPO registry: (053 489) 2254.
    Make an appointment with student counsellor mrs. Van Dijken (through secretariat SACC, phone 053 489 2035) to discuss your application.

  2. Application for a grant (after the recognized academic year).
    Submit before December 1st after the concerning academic year.
    Only students recognized in cat. 1 are eligible to 4 grants per academic year.

Categories of recognition

  • Athletes
    • Category 1:
      • Recognized by the NOC*NSF as top-level athlete with an A- HP- or B-status.
      • Highest international senior-level.
      • Highest international junior-level.
    • Category 2:
      • Highest national senior-level or junior-level.
      • Has belonged to category 1 and will return to that category in short time.
  • Artists
    The Top-level Culture Committee will assess your application of recognition and determines in which category (1 or 2) you will be placed.

Facilities per category

  • Category 1 and 2:
    • Custom-made tutoring:
      Once per semester, you will make an integrated sport/culture plan and study plan with your study adviser. This plan especially focusses on the bottlenecks and its solutions.
    • Free use of UT facilities:
      Athletes can use sports facilities (e.g. gym) free of charge.
      Artists can consult the Top-level Culture Committee for possibilities.
  • Category 1:
  • 4 grants per recognized academic year.

the amount of the grant

After a recognized academic year (category 1) you can apply for 4 grants. The amount for academic year 2015/2016 is: € 281.57 per grant.

During the entire enrolment period at the UT you can receive a maximum of 18 top-level sports/arts grants, activism grants included.

Per calendar year a maximum of 12 grants can be awarded for top-level sports, top-level arts, activism grants and force majeure allowance (e.g. illness) combined.

Application for recognition as a top-level athlete or artist:
