Track 9: Philosophy of engineering and design

Answering the fundamental questions of philosophy of technology has continuously led to analyses of the very sources of technology. The ‘engineering and design’ track is open for contributions that address issues about these sources, and also welcomes contributions that link these issues to topics in other domains of philosophy and philosophy of technology. From conceptual analysis and the metaphysics of artifacts, to arguments about the natural-artificial divide and socio-technical systems; from discussions of design methodology to analyses of heuristics, the nature of technical knowledge, and the preconditions to value-sensitive designing; from characterizations of engineering to theories of the interplay between engineers, clients, users, and society, and evolutionary accounts of technology.
