Abstract:

Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) has been increasingly applied in healthcare. MCDA can aid decision makers in comparing the value of alternative technologies for healthcare, while taking into account multiple, and even conflicting, decision criteria. It is useful for the early assessment of the value of innovations for healthcare, even when the performance of the technological innovation is still uncertain. Experts can express their expectations on the performance and future possibilities of the alternative technologies to apply, and the uncertainty in their expectations can be visualized. The outcomes can support decisions about the further development and application of new technologies for healthcare. During this presentation, some commonly used methods for MCDA are illustrated. These methods are not only presented in a theoretical context, in a practical exercise one of the methods of MCDA will be applied to support group decision making by the audience! After this colloquium the audience will have a basic understanding about the use of MCDA and its support to group decision making about innovations for healthcare.
