The material side of the internet
The cloud metaphor for the internet seems to suggest that the web is an ethereal substance. This is certainly not the case: there are miles of underground cables stretching from one continent to the other. Huge server parks are humming 24/7 to keep the cloud in the air. If you take a closer look at the material side of the net, what will you encounter? How heavy is the net, what does it smell like, and how much energy does it consume?
