Expertise

Stans Drossaert studied Health Promotion at the University of Maastricht. She wrote her PhD-thesis on “Psychosocial aspects of participating in breast cancer screening” and is currently working as an Associate Professor in (health-) psychology.

Her research interests are in the field of patient participation and patient empowerment. Central in her work is the question: ‘How can we equip patients and healthy persons with adequate information, skills or tools, to facilitate their active involvement in (decisions about) the management of their disease, and to improve their role in maintaining their health?”. Drossaert is especially interested in the role of (internet-)technology herein.

Topics that have been studied within this research theme, include: Online support groups, Shared Decision Making and online Decision Aids, eHealth Literacy, Patient-portals, and the Needs and experiences of patients and their caregivers regarding ‘telecare’ and ‘online interventions’.
