Curriculum Vitae

Bärbel Dorbeck-Jung is Emeritus Professor of Regulation and Technology. She holds a Masters’s degree in German law (University of München) and a PhD. (Public Administration) from the University of Twente. Before she moved to the Netherlands in 1980 she worked as an advocate and business attorney in Berlin (specialization: international computer law). From 1980 to 1992 she worked as an assistant professor of information law at the University of Twente. She held editorships of German and Dutch Journals on Law and Information Technology. Dorbeck-Jung wrote her Ph.D. at the University of Twente on a comparison of German and Dutch privacy law related to health care regulation In 1992 she joined the General Law Group at the Faculty of Public Administration (University of Twente) as an Associate Professor of Law and Regulation. Since 1992 she has conducted and supervised national and international studies on the evaluation of legislation and alternatives to legislation (self-regulation) in various policy fields. She held visiting professorships at the Universities of Kassel (Germany), Orebro (Sweden) and Edinburgh (UK). In 2002 she received the Teacher Award of UT Public Administration Education. In 2006 she visited the Berlin Wissenschaftzentrum, Center of Excellence of Social Science. In 2006 she received the first visiting fellow grant of the International Institute of the Sociology of Law at Onati (Spain). Dorbeck-Jung is frequently invited to review scientific articles.

Currently she conducts multidisciplinary studies on regulatory governance of technologies and responsible research and innovation. She focuses on health care technologies and nanotechnologies. The coming years she will elaborate the concepts of effectiveness and legitimacy of co-regulation.
