He has also done research in the area of political representation and changes in the system of representative democracy at the local level. Moreover he is interested in the adoption and dissemination of institutional reforms and politico-adminstrative innovations and the effect of such innovations on the quality of governance. These reforms may pertain to territorial reforms (amalgamations, intermunicipal cooperation), democratic reforms and the introduction of collaborative governance arrangements.
