Short bio

Alieke van Dijk (Amersfoort, 1987) studied Sociology (BSc) at the University of Groningen and Psychology (MSc) at the University of Twente. For her master’s thesis she examined the role of working preference in scripted collaborative drawing in elementary education. Following her graduation she worked on the SCY-project for two years at the Department of Instructional Technology, focusing on research in the field of (collaborative) inquiry learning. In May 2011, Alieke started her PhD-project at the same department.

Within the context of the BE COOL! project, Alieke researches the implementation of the jigsaw method in primary education’s mixed-ability classrooms. She investigates differences between students of different ability levels in their need and use of support during inquiry learning tasks, and how to support heterogeneous (i.e., mixed-ability) cooperative learning situations.
