Haomiao is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of Governance & Technology for Sustainability, the School of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS). Her research focuses on the legal aspect of the responsible research and development of drone technology.

She completed her PhD at the Amsterdam Centre for International Law (ACIL) of the University of Amsterdam on the topic of the international legal framework for geoengineering, which refers to a series of techniques to counteract or combat global warming. Her PhD research mainly falls on climate change issues relevant to International Environmental Law. During her PhD programme, she did an internship with the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Prior to her PhD programme, she holds an LLM in Environmental and Resource Protection Law and an LLB in Law.
