Prof. dr. Jon C. Lovett (1958) is professor of Sustainable Development in a North South Perspective at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

Jon Lovett is Director of the IGS strategic research orientation ‘SUS+’ on Sustainable Water, Energy and Spatial Governance. He joined the University of Twente in 2007, initially part-time with the University of York and then full-time from September 2009. Lovett was on the Programme Advisory Committee for the Natural Resources Systems Programme of the UK Department for International Development (1999-2006) and Senior Advisor to the Lower Kihansi Hydropower Environmental Monitoring and Catchment Management Projects, Tanzania (1996-2002). From 1996 to 1997 he was on the joint Economic and Social Science Research Council and Natural Environment Research Council committee on environmental economics and was responsible for preparing the policy report reviewing provision of advanced courses in environmental economics, environmental evaluation and risk assessment. From 2008-2009 he was the Environmental Economics specialist on the Chief Scientist’s team of the UK government agency Natural England. His primary research interest is the institutional economics of natural resource management, particularly in developing countries but also in Europe. He has lead and participated in numerous externally funded projects with support from the EU, research councils, government development agencies, non-governmental organisations and industry.
