The training of PhDs

Knowledge work is central in our society’s organizations. Hence, the supply of human talents with varied experiences may be considered the knowledge base of our societies, and a significant part of that consists of the talents of postgraduates. The ways of training of PhD candidates and their career perspectives are on the agenda of this project.

Recent postgraduate fellows of the Hans-Böckler-Stiftung – one of the major foundations in this area in Germany -, their mentors, and the peers reviewing the PhD process will be surveyed to gather information and analyses on the PhD work and its outcomes. Questions related to the integration of doctoral students at the faculty and institute level, the training and supervision of the candidates, completion rates and time-to-degree, and their subsequent career will be addressed.
