13. STRUCTURE OF THE TRAINEESHIP

13.1 ORGANISATION OF THE TRAINEESHIP

The traineeship (course code 274099) is a compulsory part of both Master’s tracks, with exclusion of the tracks by HBO-continuates. The traineeship covers minimally 10 weeks (15 EC) during which the student is posted at a biomedical company, institution of health care, research institute or university. The learning goal of the traineeship concerns experience to the future working field by performing a relevant assignment at an external organisation. During this assignment, gained knowledge and skills at the study programme can be applied in an actual working environment. Two supervisors are assigned:

o

A daily supervisor: of the organisation that provides the traineeship (trainee post);

o

An UT-supervisor: member of the scientific staff of the programme.

Students are evaluated on terms of their daily work and scientific level of research, which shows from the traineeship thesis.

All traineeships are coordinated by the traineeship coordinator. Only when all obligations in the Bachelor’s programme are fulfilled, students are allowed to start a traineeship. Orientation for traineeships has to start half a year prior to national traineeships and a year prior to international traineeships. This time is required for actual arrangement of the traineeship, accommodation and all formalities. Application for the traineeship has to be submitted to the new Student Mobility System (https://webapps.utwente.nl/srs/en/srsservlet, in Dutch). At this site, all necessary forms can be found. The main form can also be found in appendix 8.

At TeleTOP, the site of the international office and the UT traineeship site, all relevant information and every required form for traineeships is available at course code and name: “274099 Stage BME” (in Dutch). This concerns respectively: TeleTOP,

http://intoffice.utwente.nl (Dutch) and

http://www.stage.utwente.nl (Dutch).

TeleTOP comprises:

o

Practical information concerning general events for traineeships, like: preparation, applications for conferences and execution and completion of the traineeship;

o

Many links to companies and all sorts of useful organisations concerning arrangements and finances of traineeships;

o

All traineeships that the trainee coordinator receives by companies and organisations, will be added to the site;

o
