Centre for Clean Technology and Environmental Policy
The Centre for Clean Technology and Environmental Policy (CSTM) was established in 1988 to conduct environmental research. Its mandate mirrors the entrepreneurial goals of the University of Twente: to conduct and apply innovative research for the benefit of society. It specializes in governance, emphasising sustainable development, environmental quality, and technological innovation. It offers courses that combine policy, management, and technology.
There are three major divisions in CSTM. The first division aims to expand the knowledge base for designing and implementing governance strategies for sustainable development. Another division focuses on sustainable development in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, examining socio-economic, environmental, cultural, and institutional influences. The third division is the Cartesius Institute which conducts researches and teaches sustainable innovation, offering specialized educational programs and services for national and international students, post-doctoral fellows, and professionals.
