Human behaviour key in protecting information assets

An information infrastructure may be protected by the best technical means possible, but in the end it is often human behaviour that leads to unwanted intrusion or to the theft of information. By themselves, technical solutions will not solve these problems. That’s why universities and companies all over Europe are getting involved in the TREsPASS project, which makes specific allowance for the human dimension. The aim is to develop a smart ‘attack navigator’, which will trace potential weak points within an organization or a given infrastructure. Litska Strikwerda of the Philosophy (of technology) chair was awarded best paper at the 4th International Conference on Digital Forensics and Cyber Crime for her paper “When Should Virtual Cybercrime Be Brought under the Scope of the Criminal Law?”. PhD defense of Ibsen Chivatá Cárdenas

His defense will take place on 16 November on 12.45h in the “Prof.dr. G. Berkhoff” room in the Waaier building. Fifteen minutes before his defense will take place, Ibsen will give a presentation addressing the headlines of his PhD research (starting 12.30h). You are all kindly invited to be present.

The title of Ibsen’s PhD thesis is: “Integrating knowledge for managing risk in infrastructure projects: the case of tunnel works”.

In his research Ibsen has developed six Bayesian-Belief-Networks based models to identify, assess and control six major critical failure events in tunneling projects. He also applied and tested the models for the Sluiskil Tunnel Project that currently is under construction in Zeeland in The Netherlands.
