University Council
The university council consists of 18 members (9 student members and 9 staff members). All of these 18 members are associated with one of the 2 parties in the university council: Campus Coalition and UReka. The students in the university council are elected for a period of one year, whereas the staff members are elected for a period of two years. All staff members and students automatically receive a notice to vote electronically. Both staff members and students can put themselves up for election through a UR party’s list of candidates.
The university council is the central participation platform of the University and frequently confers with the executive board of the university to discuss matters of interest for the university community. In many instances, the Executive Board requires the approval of the university council, for example, with regard to:
· |
major reorganizations |
· |
establishment or termination of a programme course |
· |
research policy |
· |
personnel policy |
· |
regulations establishing the rights of students |
· |
policy impacting the quality of education |
In addition, the UR may offer both solicited and unsolicited recommendations. The Executive Board is obligated to respond to these recommendations. Last of all the university council has the right to request information regarding the university.
