Prof. Dr. van Blitterswijk elected as member of the KNAW
9 May 2012
Today the KNAW (Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences) announced the names of fourteen new members of the Academy. Amongst the newly elected members is Prof. Dr. Clemens van Blitterswijk. Prof. van Blitterswijk will be installed as new member on 11 September 2012.
Since its inception, the Academy has been a learned society of outstanding Dutch scientists and scholars. Membership is awarded on the basis of scientific and scholarly achievement. Members are appointed for life. Academy membership is regarded as a great honour in the Netherlands, therefor the Tissue Regeneration department is proud to have a KNAW member as it’s chair person.
The Academy derives its authority from the quality of its members, who represent the full spectrum of scientific and scholarly endeavor and are selected on the basis of their achievements. It is also responsible for seventeen internationally renowned institutes whose research and collections put them in the vanguard of Dutch science and scholarship.
As the forum, conscience, and voice of the arts and sciences in the Netherlands, the Academy promotes quality in science and scholarship and strives to ensure that Dutch scholars and scientists contribute to cultural, social and economic progress. As a research organisation, the Academy is responsible for a group of outstanding national research institutes. It promotes innovation and knowledge valorisation within these institutes and encourages them to cooperate with one another and with university research groups.
