De structuur en elektronische eigenschappen van schone en bedekte oppervlakken worden behandeld. Dit wordt gedaan in relatie met de experimentele technieken waarmee deze eigenschappen zichtbaar worden gemaakt zoals diffractie en scanning probe. Adsorptie, desorptie, thermodynamische en kinetische aspecten van groei worden behandeld. Tot slot worden electrische en optische eigenschappen van dunne film materialen in relatie tot hun fabricage geillustreerd met voorbeelden uit met name de halfgeleiderfysica.

Doel

The objective of the course is to get the student acquainted with a few basic pinciples, processes and features in the field of surface and thin films. With this content the student should be able to read a typical article published in this field and be able to extract the important issues. The context of these issues in relation to the basic principles and processes can be given.
