The course gives an introduction to advanced materials that are of interest in today's society. The first part of the course consists of lectures on general physical aspects of materials that play an important role in present technology or constitute possible major advances. Topics include magnetic, semiconductor, and dielectric/optical materials. The second part of the course focuses on special topics based upon the recent literature. Students will widen their knowledge on a specific topic in materials physics and present their results in a mini-symposium.
