Faculty opening
We are a recently founded, internationally oriented group conducting fundamental research on electrostatics and electron transfer in liquid, and simultaneously exploring new concepts for fluidic technologies based on this new understanding. Recent and current research topics include for example carbon nanotube and graphene (bio)sensors, the physics of charge inversion and DNA condensation by multivalent ions, the fundamentals of electrophoresis, high frequency CMOS-based nanosensors, and electrochemical detection of single molecules in nanofluidic devices. This research is imbedded in the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology and with access to the latter’s world-class cleanroom facilities. Over the coming 1-2 years, we intend to expand the group size to 3 faculty members by hiring two additional faculty members at the assistant/associate professor level. To this end, we currently welcome applications from suitable candidates.
Activities
The candidate will lead an independent research effort in areas that complement and enhance the group’s existing activities. He/she will develop his/her own research line, secure external funding, supervise the junior scientists associated with his/her projects, and contribute to the overall intellectual life of the group. He/she will further participate actively in the faculty’s teaching activities.
Profile
We are looking for candidates with
· |
an outstanding research track record in disciplines that are closely connected to our ongoing projects, including physics, biophysics, (nano)chemistry, and nanofluidics, |
· |
excellent experimental and conceptual skills, |
· |
the ability to communicate effectively and inspire students and co-workers, and |
· |
the aptitude and drive to conduct exploratory, pioneering research. |
Appointment
You will be appointed in a Tenure Track position, which permits promotion from UD (assistant professor) to UHD (associate professor) following a positive review, and subsequently to full professor. An initial appointment at UHD level is also possible for more experienced candidates.
Information
Review of candidates has already begun, but new applications will be accepted until the positions have been filled. Further details and the complete procedure for application can be found on the university’s vacancies webpage (near the bottom under the heading “Tenure Track Positions”).
