Description Research Area
The research of the University of Twente is internationally acclaimed especially in the areas of ICT, biomedical and nano-technology. In the strategic vision “route’14” application areas that will be focused upon are health, water, sustainable energy, safety and education. The proposed GP “Nano-Devices and Systems” focuses on applications of nanotechnology and will make a bridge between nanoscience / nanotechnology and the ICT and biomedical expertise areas. Research lines in the participating groups more and more address the needs in the application areas of health, water sustainable energy and safety.

The theme nano-devices and systems as addressed in this programme relates to important research lines within the institute: biomedical, bio-analytical nanosystems and devices, advanced sensing, signal processing and data storage including the optical and mechanical domain, “smart” IC’s with embedded sensors and actuators, superconductive and quantum-electronic devices. There is a strong relation with the SRO’s Nanoelectronics and Mesofluidics.
