Medical Sensing & Stimulation
Medical Sensing and Stimulation focuses on the acquisition, processing and interpretation of medical signals (diagnosis), and the use of signals to stimulate and thereby correct or improve impaired functions of the human organism (therapy).
Graduated Technical Physicians, who have followed this master, have a good knowledge of the clinical context in which medical signals are relevant, and are able to initiate and develop new innovations in the use of these signals. Here, they can use their knowledge of healthy and sick persons (normal physiology and pathophysiology), and their expertise in the field of signal acquisition and processing. They are capable of performing patient measurements independently in different situations, ranging from an out of hospital setting to measurements in the operating room or intensive care unit. They can process and interpret this data in such a way that it contributes to a more reliable or more efficient diagnosis and/or new therapeutic possibilities. In addition, Technical Physicians are trained to use signals for direct therapeutic applications, such as deep brain stimulation or rehabilitation therapy.
Technical Physicians will have an innovative role in the field of medical-technical diagnosis or treatment. This can be as advisor or as co-therapist, in a multidisciplinary patient oriented treatment team.
