Aim
Provide participants with opportunities to practise and improve writing and speaking skills suitable for advanced academic use.
Aimed at
This course is for students whose current level of English is approximately CEF B2-C1.
It is intended for students who want to broaden their vocabulary and improve academic writing, presentation and discussion skills. The topics in the lessons focus on language in an academic environment. Students who join this course have already gained the following language qualifications:
Speaking

After completing English for Academic Purposes II students can:

give clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to their field of interest, expanding and supporting ideas with subsidiary points and relevant examples. |

initiate discourse, take their turn when appropriate and end conversation when they need to. |

ask follow-up questions to check that they have understood what a speaker intended to say, and get clarification of ambiguous points. |

Organisation
Each lesson includes a variety of topics and learning activities, both teacher directed and student initiated. Homework each week consists of writing and reading tasks, and preparation for speaking exercises and discussions. Students can submit parts of their theses for weekly feedback from a qualified English teacher.
Admission criteria
Participants are required to complete a brief assessment before being accepted for enrollment in this course. This includes general information, reading, vocabulary and structures results from the online Dialang test, and a writing sample.
Study Load
Attendance at every lesson is essential. The course is held over six weeks, with one session per week, each session lasting two and a half hours. Homework is expected to take approximately two hours each week. The study load for this course is roughly equivalent to 1 ECTS.
