Business train journeys as from 1 March with NS Business Card

Due to the national introduction of the OV-Chipcard the NS has decided to stop selling paper train tickets. For the University of Twente this means that the current agreement with the NS will not be extended.

To replace the paper ticket, the UT has now chosen to provide NS Business Cards. The NS Business Card (NS-BC) is an OV-chipcard that staff of the UT can use for domestic business trips. As from 1 March the chipcard will be taken into use UT-wide.

There will be no changes for commuter travel by train. Also in the next year, the UT will continue using the zoned travel passes and single train tickets.

Advantages

The NS Business Card has many advantages compared to the paper tickets. For example it involves the handling of fewer expense claims and a reduced administrative burden, and savings in travelling costs.

Introduction

Each unit (faculty, directorate or service centre) has been given the choice to provide either personal cards or the use of department cards. Depending on the choice made, in mid-February the cards will be provided to staff in case of personal cards and to the card managers/secretary’s offices in case of department cards. Cardholders will be informed personally at the beginning of February. If your unit has opted for department cards, you will be informed via the unit and/or secretary’s office/card manager.

Expense claims

As from 1 March 2012 it will no longer be possible to claim the costs of train tickets via the web application RRVD. Please make sure, therefore, that you use the NS-BC at all times for your business trips by train.
