4 Dec 2012 – CMI Event on PET-MRI, UMCG Groningen

This years’ topic of the CMINEN event is PET-MRI, a new combined Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology that offers interesting opportunities for researchers, clinicians and industries.

Worldwide billions of dollars are invested in medical product development, whereas, the increasing healthcare costs are a major concern. This means that there is growing awareness that new medical products need to be developed with a much clearer view on the medical need, patient preferences and the cost-benefit. In the 2012 CMINEN event we will discuss the clinical value, as well as the economic value of new medical technology, with a specific focus on the PET-MRI.

The 2012 CMINEN Event will precede the inaugural lecture of Dr. Philip Elsinga, who is assigned as Professor in PET Radiochemistry. His inaugural lecture will start at 16.15h in the Academy building of the University of Groningen.

We will present a plenary and scientific programme with outstanding speakers from the Netherlands and abroad. A preliminary programma is available on the registration page.

24 Nov 2012 - CMI Medical Tour

A delegation of 25 CMI representatives will visit the USA, November 24-30, 2012

CMI has an international focus and is actively pursuing international collaborations. Therefore a delegation of 25 researchers, clinicians and companies affiliated with CMI will visit Chicago and Boston. The objective of our mission is to understand the latest developments in the field of imaging and use of imaging techniques for diagnosis and treatments, learn from leading institutes in the USA, and make new contacts for possible future research collaboration.

In Chicago the CMI Delegation will attend the annual meeting of Radiological Society of North America. The RSNA hosts the largest medical meeting in the world, drawing 60,000 attendees annually to Chicago and it provides a great opportunity to learn more about the latest trends in radiology. The delegation will also visit Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, the Medical Imaging Centre at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and various network events during the RSNA.

In the Boston region a number of leading institutes and companies will be visited, including the Surgery Planning Laboratory at the Brigham and Woman Hospital and DanaFarber Cancer Institute, both affiliated to Harvard Medical School. The delegation will also visit the Martinos Centre for Biomedical Imaging, which is a collaboration between Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Division of Health Sciences & Technology (HST), and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). This might be a great example for CMI to facilitate collaboration between scientist, engineers and clinical experts.

In addition, the delegation will visit a large manufacture of mammography and breast biopsy products, a start-up in the field of high-res optical imaging, a network lunch hosted by the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center with keynote speeches of MIRA professor Stefano Stramigioli & CMI founding partner Siemens, and a reception at one of Boston’s leading entrepreneurial and innovation communities, the Cambridge Innovation Center at MIT’s Kendall Square in Cambridge.
