Video registration second edition of the MIRA Distinguished Lecturer Series on Research fallacies Lucia de B. case

On Wednesday April 10th MIRA organized the second edition of the MIRA Distinguished Lecturer Series. This series connects MIRA’s biomedical research to the outside world. For this purpose there is always an internal speaker and an external guest. The external guest, Metta de Noo, has lectured about Research ‘fallacies’ and the Lucia de B. case. Illustrating the influence of psychological mechanisms such as selectivity of memory and perception, mindsets, confirmation bias, and fallacy of identity. At the time, De Noo doubted the reasoning used by the court and the medical and statistical evidence that was presented. For six years she has plead for De Berk’s innocence.

De Noo’s lecture was preceded by a lecture by MIRA’s Jeroen Rouwkema. By the title:
Workout for cells, Rouwkema has lectured on how mechanical signals are used to stimulate engineered tissues.

The video of his lecture will be available soon.

Jeroen Rouwkema started working on prevascularized tissue engineering during a 6-month research visit to the group of professor Bob Langer at MIT in 2002. Continuing on this work, he obtained his PhD in 2007 in the group of professor Clemens van Blitterswijk at the University of Twente. In 2008 he joined the department of Biomechanical Engineering, where he currently holds an assistant professor position. In 2010 he received a VENI grant to study the effect of mechanical signals on cells.
