UTo Business Award 2010

MIRA’s scientists Marcel Karperien, Piet Dijkstra and Jan Feijen, received the UTo Business Award for most viable entrepreneurial idea in biomedical technology. Karperien and colleagues presented their ‘healing plasters’. It is a hydrogel that can counteract to the degenerative effect of arthritis to the cartilage. The gel is composed of natural polymers, which attach to the eroded cartilage surface. Both the jury prize of 7500 Euros and the public prize of 2500 Euros went to the Karperien team. The money will be spent on professionalization of their business case.
