23 jan 2012 - New SEM
With the acquisition and installation this coming Spring of the new BioNano high resolution SEM the MESA+ NanoLab can look forward to a significant improvement towards ultimate materials characterization at the nanoscale.
The old Carl Zeiss 1550 HRSEM will be replaced by the newest, state of art high resolution SEM from Carl Zeiss, the MERLIN field emission SEM.
This HRSEM can achieve point to point resolution up to almost one nanometer at low voltages (1Kv) and in the new to NanoLab STEM facility even under the one nanometer (0.7nm).
The MERLIN will be equipped with a host of detection systems including in-lens SE, ESB and ASB. It will also comprise plasmon cleaning, charge compensation facilities and an ultra modern Energy Dispersive Detector for nanoparticle analysis, and both a heating and cold stage.
