NANOFORUMEULA announces Research Visit Grants call

Latin American Nanoscientists offered EU support to visit European Nanolaboratories

NANOFORUMEULA invites PhD students, postdocs and senior researchers employed by a Latin American R&D organisation with prior research activities in nanotechnology to submit a proposal. Women are especially encouraged to apply. The NANOFORUMEULA funding only covers the additional costs of travel to Europe, subsistence and research expenses for up to three months. Salaries are not covered by NANOFORUMEULA. A visit must take place in one of these four European Nanotechnology Research centres, between 15 August 2007 and 1 May 2008:

The objective of the NANOFORUMEULA Research Visit Grants is to stimulate lasting R&D collaborations between European and Latin American nanotechnology institutions. Furthermore, the NANOFORUMEULA project is intended to enhance visibility in Latin America of the European Union Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development (FP6 and FP7). NANOFORUMEULA is funded under the Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences, Knowledge Based Multifunctional Materials and New Production Processes and Devices (NMP) programme of FP6. Latin American researchers are also welcome to participate and receive funding from the European Union under the new FP7 (2007-2013). (See http://cordis.europa.eu/nanotechnology.) We hope that the NANOFORUMEULA project raises awareness about these funding opportunities among the Latin American nanoscience and nanotechnology community. The research visit grants should enable European and Latin American scientists to get to know each other and establish lasting working relations.

The present call for visit grants is published on NANOFORUMEULA, NANOFORUM, CORDIS, MINAPIM, IPICYT, the websites of the host organisations and through other means by 1 February 2007, with deadline 1 May 2007. A scientific committee will select the successful candidates and we will notify them and publish the results by August 2007. The visits will have to take place between 15 August 2007 and 1 May 2008.

About NANOFORUMEULA

The project aims to foster lasting research relations between European research organisations and research organisations in Latin America specialising in nanotechnology. We subsidise exchange visits for some twenty Latin American researchers to four European research organisations specialising in nanotechnology. We organise two workshops and subsequent fact finding missions in Mexico and Brazil enabling European researchers and industrialists to identify opportunities for establishing working relations.

About the European Union Framework Programmes

This Specific Support Action Nanoforum EU Latin America (NANORORUMEULA) is funded by the European Union under the Sixth EU Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development; Nanotechnologies and Nanosciences, Knowledge Based Multifunctional Materials and New Production Processes and Devices (FP6, NMP). The EU Framework Programmes constitute the main instrument for funding research in Europe. Under FP6 (2003-2006), approximately €17.5 billion has been invested in research, including €1.3 billion for the NMP programme. FP7 (2007-2013) with a budget of around €50 billion, including about €3.5 billion for the NMP programme, has just been launched. The first calls for proposals were published on 22 December 2006. Organisations and researchers from outside the European Union are welcome to participate in all European Community research activities under FP7, subject to the rules for participation.
