Nanotechnology in Brazil

Worldwide, nanotechnology is expected to contribute to wealth creation, sustainable development and other benefits for producers, consumers and society at large. Potential risks and the need for changes in legislation are also high on the policy makers’ agenda. But so far, Latin American activities in nanoscience and nanotechnology have mostly been neglected by the international community. This is not justified, especially in the case of Brazil. The European Union wants to stimulate research collaborations between European researchers and Latin American researchers active in nanotechnology under the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technology Development. In the EU funded NanoforumEULA project, we have organised a fact finding mission mapping the nanoscience and nanotechnology research community, interested companies and government policies in Brazil. The results are published below.
