Course Organisors and Venue
“The learning atmosphere at the institute is relaxed and conducive to understanding. All the staff are so friendly, this made most students comfortable and not feel lonely and too far away from home.” (Martha Mushamiri, Zimbabwe, 2003-2004) |
“The time to say good bye to your friends in Leeuwarden is really hard, but fortunately very soon you will find a warm welcome from the professors and staff of the energy stream. And Enschede is a lively and international city. (you can also cross the border to Germany by bike!!!).” (Edgar Cruz Hernandez, Colombia, 2006-2007) |
The Master of Environmental and Energy Management is offered by CSTM – the Twente Centre for Studies in Technology and Sustainable Development at the University of Twente – it was established in 1988 to conduct environmental policy research and cleaner production, expanding during the 1990s to a more general focus on technology and sustainable development. Its mandate mirrors the entrepreneurial goals of the University of Twente: to conduct and apply innovative research for the benefit of society. We specialise in governance, emphasising sustainable development, environmental quality, and technological innovation - from both developed and developing country perspectives.
The research program of CSTM 'Innovation and Governance for Sustainable Development' is a strategic research orientation in the Institute for Governance Studies and is built around four research themes addressing different areas of sustainable development: water management, energy and climate, sustainable production and consumption, and sustainability at the regional/local level. All these areas present major governance challenges and responding to them is vital for sustainable development and innovation. The program was recently (2009) reviewed by an international panel, obtaining the highest possible ranking.
CSTM offers graduate studies at both Master and PhD levels. Our PhD program offers guidance to an increasingly large number of students from all over the world.
Our Master of Environmental and Energy Management is primarily organized by the division in the northern province of Fryslan: CSTM Fryslan.
CSTM Fryslan aims to contribute to economical and sustainable development by focussing on the socio-economic issues connected with the development, application, and use of environmentally-sound and socially-beneficial new technologies. It provides research and consultancy services for companies, government, and organizations in the region, but also works on projects on a national and international scale. Currently, Water and sustainable tourism are important themes in the research and projects at CSTM Fryslân. Next to research, the CSTM Fryslân hosts and participates in international courses in Environmental and Energy management for national and international students and professionals.
