MEEM alumni attending workshop on Mainstreaming Gender Equality in Infrastructure (March 2011)
Two MEEM alumni from Botswana – Nozipho Wright and Masego Kealotswe – attended the Regional Workshop on Mainstreaming Gender Equality in Infrastructure Projects and Policies in Ethiopia.
The workshop was held on March 22-24, 2011 in Addis Ababa and was planned for African countries, under the joint leadership of the World Bank and the African Development Bank. This workshop was the third regional learning event. It focused on the Africa Region, to increase the capacity of the Bank’s staff, country and co-financing partners in mainstreaming gender in infrastructure policies and projects, with a view of enhancing pro-poor growth, sustainable development, and poverty reduction in Africa.
The workshop was designed to give participants the opportunity to learn from successful projects in key infrastructure sectors, to brainstorm how to integrate best practice into their own activities, and to establish a common platform moving forward (source: World Bank).
Nozipho Wright and Masego Kealotswe were complemented on their performance as they stood out because of their professionalism.
Dr. J.S. Clancy - Associate Professor in Development Studies specializing in Technology Transfer from the University of Twente – was an invited key note speaker at the conference. Her presentation ‘Gender mainstreaming in Energy Sector’ will be available in the University of Twente library repository.
