How to apply for a scholarship

There are several options for acquiring fellowships that cover some or all of the costs of the Master of Environmental and Energy Management at the University of Twente. Every organization has its own application procedure. There are however some general tips we can give you when you want to apply for a scholarship:

·	The acquisition of a fellowship is often a lengthy process, which means you have to apply with plenty of time in advance. Most scholarship organisations have an application deadline in February or March. Make sure you know when the deadline for application is.

·	Be aware that for most scholarships you have to apply yourself. We cannot do this for you.

·	Some scholarships are aimed at excellent students only (for example UTS and E8).

What exactly is an excellent student? An excellent student is ranked in the top 10-20% of his/her class, has a strong connection with the field of study, is strongly committed to community involvement and can write a good motivational statement about why he/she chooses to study in the field of energy/environmental management. Know your own strength. If you do not qualify as an excellent student then it is of no use to apply for the E8 or UTS. Organisations that are looking for excellent students, will award the scholarship to the most excellent student. If you do not meet the criteria for an excellent student then there are other good options available.

·	You are one amongst hundreds who apply for a scholarship. Make sure you stand out from all the other applicants. For example by writing an original motivational statement.

·	Make a good first impression by handing in your application complete. Make sure you know which documents are required for the application. Do they ask for certified copies? Then send them certified copies.

·	Besides the scholarship organisations you can also try to find local sponsors; companies, government, family, a bank loan etcetera.
