Results Alumni survey

At the end of 2005, a questionnaire was sent out to MEEM Alumni. This document presents a selection of the results. These results are based on 50 responses, that is, a 37 percent response rate. This document briefly presents the most significant outcomes of the survey.

Labour Market

The MEEM alumni are employed by the following types of organizations:

After graduating from the Master of Environmental and Energy Management, some graduates returned to their former jobs (28%) , while others (58%) entered the labour market looking for a suitable job. Also, some graduates took up further studies.

The majority of respondents applying for a job after graduation found one within three months: 63 percent. Another 13 percent found a job in 4 to 6 months. 86 percent of the graduates found a job within a year.

Of the 14 respondents returning to their former jobs, 29 percent got a different job position within 3 months after the graduating from the MEEM. Three out of 4 got a higher position, the last one kept the same job level but with added management responsibilities. Another 14 percent changed to a different, higher job position within a year.

Influence on career & benefits gained

The effects of the MEEM on the careers of its alumni are clearly positive:

29% Claims the effect of the MEEM on their career to be extremely positive / decisive

None of the respondents reported a negative effect

The most important benefit the respondents gained from participating in the MEEM is ‘critical and analytical thinking about issues’ (57%). Also, the knowledge and skills acquired are mentioned often as being most important (26%), followed by the diploma / title (11%) and the network of fellow participants (7%).

General

The management & organization of the programme, as well as the study environment, including the lecturer – student relationship, are often mentioned as being strong points of the programme. The course content and quality of lecturers and staff is also mentioned regularly.

Of the 46 respondents answering this question, 98 percent indicates that they would recommend the Master of Environmental and Energy Management to others – or have already done so. This shows the positive attitude of the alumni towards the course. Some of the reasons given are:

because it is challenging and gives you a large amount of new ideas for developing your career. Also, the content of the lessons is wide and requires multi-skills.

it is very enriched experience

because I had a great time learning and making new friends! Plus it’s in Holland

because it indeed a venue of sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas, benchmarking and making new friends having different professions as well. It is a meaningful and stimulating program with a) distinguished professors/speakers who are experts in their fields, b) environmental and energy relevant topic presentations, c) case studies, d) thesis reporting, e) social events, among others. The programme helped me to internalize the most important part of our fundamental role which is to provide the organization with assurance on governance, risk management and internal control processes.
