Background
Ivo received his MSc “Philosophy of Science, Technology and Society” at the University of Twente in 2003. Within this master he took several courses in electrical engineering, especially in ICT. His master’s thesis was about the battle between competing protocol stacks on the Internet, namely OSI and TCP/IP. After his graduation he worked as a junior researcher at the Centre for Studies of Science, Technology and Society (later STePS) at the University of Twente. He was mainly involved in research on the role of trust in digital patient monitoring technologies for heart failure patients. After that he worked as a researcher for the Animal Sciences Group of Wageningen UR at the cluster of Systems Innovation. In October 2009 he started his PhD research, again at the department of STePS, on how engineers can anticipate conflicting norms of care in the development of telemonitoring technologies.
Research
Ivo’s research is about how engineers can achieve a careful balance between conflicting norms in the development of telemonitoring technologies, namely surveillance by technological devices on the one hand and control and autonomy of patients and nurses on the other.
