Inaugurale rede Prof.dr.habil Holger Schiele, hoogleraar Technology Management - Innovation of Operations

Op 25 november 2010 om 16.00 uur houdt prof. dr. habil. Holger Schiele, hoogleraar Technology Management – Innovation of Operations aan de Universiteit Twente, zijn inaugurale met als titel:

“The relevance of being a preferred customer in order to access innovations from suppliers”

Industrial markets are increasingly characterized by oligopolistic market structures. As a result, suppliers may not dedicate their resources equally to all their customers, and become highly selective. In order to be able to collaborate with the best suppliers, buying firms ideally need to be more attractive for these suppliers than their competitors are. This seemingly counter-intuitive inversion of the classical marketing approach (buyers competing for suppliers, rather than the other way round) constitutes the starting point for this lecture. The imperative to increase their attractiveness for suppliers is a new challenge for purchasers and their firms, but also a very promissory approach: getting better service without paying more.

Na de oratie is er een receptie gepland van 17:00 – 18:30 uur waarbij u onder het genot van een hapje en drankje de mogelijkheid heeft om professor Schiele persoonlijk te feliciteren.

Voorafgaand aan de plechtigheid wordt vanaf 14:15 uur een lezing gehouden door de heer Frank Schöpke, CPO van Siemens IA AS, Amberg, Germany:

“Innovations with suppliers purchasing contribution”,

In order to access innovations from and with suppliers and to smoothen internal collaboration with r&d, Siemens IA AS has reorganised their purchasing organisation, introducing “procurement engineers” and updating the new product development process. Part of this initiative is a project called SIPAS. In each commodity group several workshops are run in order to identify those suppliers which award Siemens IA AS with preferred customer status. These firms are then involved as development partners.
